Set me as a seal upon thine heart
Thou Love more strong than death
That I may feel through every part
Thy burning, fiery breath.
And then like wax held in the flame,
May take the imprint of thy Name.
Set me a seal upon thine arm,
Thou Love that bursts the grave,
Thy coals of fire can never harm,
But only purge and save.
Thou jealous Love, thou burning Flame,
Oh, burn out all unlike thy Name.
The floods can never drown thy Love,
Nor weaken thy desire,
The rains may deluge from above
But never quench thy fire.
Make soft my heart in thy strong flame,
To take the imprint of thy Name.
(Cant. 8:6)
This was taken from my new favorite book and high recommendation for you, “Hinds Feet on High Places.” The title comes from Habakkuk 3:19, “The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon the high places.” I just finished it this morning. It was soooo good. It’s about a crippled girl named Much Afraid who lives in the Valley of Humiliation. She’s a member of the family of Fear and her tormenting relatives are pride, bitterness, self-pity and resentment. It’s a beautiful story of the journey we all take in trusting God to be our Sovereign leader through paths that don’t make sense to us, but in the end, lead us to perfect glory. The enemies mentioned above are always around the corner in this book, just as they are daily in our lives too. It’s a story of long-suffering, trust, and transformation. When Much Afraid was given her new name and finally her lameness was healed, I was so overjoyed for her b/c I shared this testimony with her, as do all of my friends who have given their lives to Christ. He is invisible, only in His tangible body, but our Lord is everywhere, surrounding us with His presence! He’s in every bloom. In every laugh. In every breeze. In every bite of food. He is our nourishment, our roof, our security, and our purpose. “For in Him, we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28) In Him, we have “life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) The words, ‘to the full,’ are from the Greek word, Perissos, which means ‘over and above, more than enough, abundantly, excellent, extraordinary.’
It is all true that I feel my life is Perissos. All glory to God! I look back at this time last year, even this time last month and marvel at the extent of the inner renovation Christ has done in my heart. I encourage you to drop all worries and hindrances and sprint towards Him! No walking or jogging allowed! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by considering all else rubbish compared to knowing Him intimately - not just with head knowledge, but with a full, sacrificial, happy heart. My sweet friends, rest! Rest in His serenity and favor – and go get this book!
