Be the waterfall!

“If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.” Mark 9:35

“…Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be a slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45

“With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27

Recently, I finished reading, Hinds Feet on High Places. In the story, there was an analogy of a waterfall, that made me want to be like one! If you think about it, waterfalls give and give and give. They are always flowing from their hidden source, filling the lowest places first. They’re a great picture of a humble servant! They draw their strength from a hidden source. For us, that source is the abundant stream of the fountain of Grace. We must draw from it daily for our strength to continue pouring out. We are not on earth to be served, like most of us think. ‘What can life give to me,’ is all too often the question people ask, but instead, it should be, ‘What can I give to life? To those around me God has divinely placed? What can my meager life offer you?’ These are the questions we should ask. Like the waterfall, we should humble ourselves and seek to fill the lowest first. We must become a slave to others and never cease to pour out and give without ceasing and without expecting a reward in return. Yes, it’s exhausting trying to continuously pour out, but when I tire, I chant in my head, “Be the waterfall! Be the waterfall!” It’s a great reminder to die to yourself. “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
